My Background

I am a classically trained Western and Carnatic violinist. I started learning Carnatic vocal music and Western violin at the age of 5. I switched from learning Carnatic vocal to violin at age 11. I am the disciple of world-renowned Carnatic violinist, Ganesh Rajagopalan. I have learned classical Western violin primarily from Drew Lecher, and am currently studying electric violin under the tutelage of Professor Rudolf Haken. I was a member of the Chicago Youth Symphony Orchestras for nine years, where I was awarded the prestigious Albert Pick III Scholarship, given to one musician annually for notable musical dedication and community service. I have also served as the concertmaster of my high school's varsity orchestra for four years. Over the course of my musical career, I have performed at the Chicago Symphony Center, Chicago Tyagaraja Utsavam, the Cleveland Tyagaraja Aradhana, and several other festivals and venues across the globe. In my most recent musical pursuits, I have been exploring electronic music production and composition, especially highlighting nuances of fusion between various global genres and styles.

Carnatic Violin Arangetram

Arangetram is a portmanteau of the Tamil words for stage ("arangu") and ascent ("etram"), directly translating to "ascending the stage." It is a traditional rite of passage for Carnatic artists, and is the typically the first full-length solo concert of a musician. This performance features of eight songs, consisting of a combination of a varnam, followed by several kritis, a ragam thanam pallavi, a thillana, and ending with a mangalam.
